Church Online
Online at Burnside Family Church
We are creating a support page that will hopefully help us all to connect and be intentional in connecting during this time of Corona.
The habit of meeting together is so important - be encouraged and read this post on active gathering.
We are listing the sort of tools we are utilising to stay connected in a proactive sense. All of these are available for those with a computer, an iPad or a Smart Phone. For smart phones, you can get the below apps through the App Store (Apple Devices) or Google Play (Android Devices). For computers, clicking on the below links will connect you to the site which will show you how to install. If you click on the below apps on an iPad or Phone, it should direct you to install via the App Store or Google Play.

Communication First
The humble telephone
One of the best ways is one of the old ways - simply calling someone. And with modern phone, ofcourse there is SMS. Still one of the best ways to connect and especially with those who are not tech savvy. The best thing about the phone is that it is a two-way conversation.
Snail Mail and E-Mail
Posting a letter is now a treat, and ofcourse email will not go away for a long time. These old ways are still good ways to encourage and because it is one-way communication, you can send it at anytime, and it will be received at some time so it is convenient.
Facebook Page and Group
You can access communication, media, discussion and our Facebook Live stream through our groups.
We are working to implement a Live Stream for Burnside Family Church in order to create a 'time' where we can gather together. Our main use of this function will be to offer a point of connection for our community on Sunday 10a.
We are also posting video recordings and testimonies of each other through Facebook, and media linking from our Vimeo video platform too!
Facebook Messenger
Using this addon as part of Facebook, you can call, text or video call another.
Elvanto
Elvanto will manage all our core communication and materials that can be downloaded and used for our upcoming Easter Series, Devotional activities, and Group and Teaching booklets.
Web
The website will continue to be our online 'FRONT DOOR' and contains links to lost of different areas to connect with our community. The website also contains our Audio Recording, our Blog and other resources such as Proverbs and a link to Reading the New Testament
The web is a great way to share about our online community with others - feel free to pass on the link.
Zoom (ZoomHelpPDF)
Zoom is a great tool for video connection with several people and is very interactive. Our plan is to use it for 10:40 Group, Greenhill Connect have used it, and we will probably use it for Elders Meetings and other activities.
There are many more apps and systems you can use including Skype, Whatsapp, Line, WeChat, Viber, FaceTime, Teamviewer - so explore and discover!
Resources Next
There are many resources online. Our world is overrun with knowledge and information. What makes these below helpful is when we use these tools devotionally to honour the Lord, and when we encourage one another to grow in the Lord and share our testimony to build up others.
The Bible App
Probably the number 1 bible app for reading the bible, listening to the bible and is a platform that has many devotional plans, study guides and bible teachings. This app is huge and a must have!
Bible Project
These guys have really lifted the bar on bible study and understanding the word through very creative video posts that offer brilliant insight in bite size chunks - highly recommended.
Christianity Today
One of many, this is the online web site of the magazine and has a number of helpful articles.
Eternity Newspaper
A great aussie online Christian Newspaper with encouraging and thoughtful articles
Corona Virus and our Church Community
All public gatherings at Burnside Family Church are now in recess. Please pray for our nation and stay safe.
How do we respond to Corona?
- The same way we respond to any issue - without fear or timidity, with power, love and self-discipline!
- Please stay informed and up to date. There are some links below if you need them. We are flooded with information. Please ensure you have facts, and not fear.
- This page will contain a changing set of information that we are communicating about Corona in order to keep our Church safe while we pursue our mandate to not give up meeting together.
- We will follow Government advice and rules and do our best to honour those who rule, and love one another
We respond without Fear or Timidity
The following scriptures will remind us that we do not have a Spirit of Fear, and that we need to defend our eyes and ears from the panic, rather rest our hearts in the peace of the promises of God
-
Matthew 10:28 - “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
-
Psalm 27:1 - “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”
-
1 Peter 5:7 - Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
-
Psalm 111:10 - “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
-
Matthew 10:29-31 - Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
-
Isaiah 41:10 - “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
-
Psalm 46:1-3 - “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”
-
2 Timothy 1:12 - “That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.”
-
Proverbs 29:25 - Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.
-
Philippians 4:7 - “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
-
Isaiah 43:1 - “Don’t fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine.”
-
Romans 8:28 - “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
We respond with Self Discipline
By using wisdom and being self discplined, we can love one another and help keep one another safe, and display the hope we have in Jesus through our peaceful actions, including:
- Be responsible and choose to reduce your contact and stay safe, especially if you are feeling ill or have underlying health issues; consider your risks and whether you should stay at home;
- Be disciplined and find ways to reduce physical contact, finding other creative ways to be loving towards others; and gauging anothers sense of social space and contact – if in doubt, ask!
- Be diligent and increase the frequency of our hygiene – washing hands and wiping down surfaces we use after use – good habits never grow old.
- Accept that if you or others you know have elevated risk factors, such as age, or underlying health issues, remaining socially distant is critical, and find another way to show love and care;
- Show love by keeping in touch with friends and family to make sure they’re well and going ok and offering a friendly chat/prayer;
- Be willing to stay home and reduce all contact as risk factors and capacity to manage safety becomes too difficult;
- Consider taking on another way to meet with the Lord should gathering not be an option for you, or for us.

1st of the Month > Family Services
The first Sunday of the Month is a family service. These services is where children and young people remain in the Church Service with us and together we worship God.
A family service is also a little more accessible to all age groups, so different things happen in different ways on the 1st Sunday of the month.
After the service, BF Kids run a Missions Stall where they offer amazing treats to raise money for Missions as part of their contribution to Missions and learning what is means to give and live sacrificially. Living sacrificially in Adelaide Australia 2020 is actually pretty hard. We know how to give from our plenty, but sacrifice inherently means giving up on something we miss and this is an important principle to teach and practice in our age and culture.
We are also offering milkshakes, free for kids, and by donation for adults. We hope you can join us for the first Sunday of each month as we worship together, grow together and serve together.
New Testament in 2020
There are many accessible and encouraging resources online that help us to read, listen and watch the bible. The method matters less, what matters more is that we engage in the Word of God more. And even better in community. Would you join us as we read through the New Testament together in 2020?

We live in amazing times where we are so resourced and have significant opportunities to engage with the Word of God. Many people in the Word pay a high price for just a single Gospel, so let us make use of what we have been given, for to who much is given, much is expected!
The Good News is something so different and so profound, there is nothing like it on earth - that is why Jesus came! We live in this world, but because of Jesus, we are not of this world. We need to remind ourselves of who we are, who God says He is and the power and beauty of the Word of God, in His presence and following Jesus.
